The association founded in 2017 Bunong e.V. is a non-profit association based in Hamburg and registered since 2018.
The aim of Bunong e.V. is to contribute to the sustainable improvement of people’s living conditions and their participation in society in Cameroon and Germany. Together with the beneficiaries, we work closely on various projects and support concepts to achieve this.
Our commitment is primarily directed at rural regions, which face enormous challenges, often caused by a lack of health and education infrastructure and a lack of future prospects. This leads to high infant mortality, school dropout and rural exodus. For this reason, our activities are currently focused on Cameroon and in particular on the Banen regions. However, this does not preclude us from carrying out projects in other regions of the country if necessary.
Cameroon is a country of contrasts, as it is blessed with both potential and challenges. In the south of the country, farmers cultivate fertile land, while the north is dry and arid. Despite revenues from the oil industry, which account for about one-third of government revenues, poverty among the population is nevertheless high, with a good third of Cameroonians living on $1.25 or less per day. In 2015, Cameroon ranked only 153rd (out of 188) on the United Nations Human Development Index.
Few people in rural areas have easy access to schools, drinking water supplies, health services, or markets. Poverty is greatest in rural areas. Families there secure their livelihoods through agriculture. This is precisely what we want to do with your contribution.
